Alex started Howards Accountants from his garden office, the business has grown and following successful acquisitions of local businesses, Alex now employs 13 people within the business. Over 12 years of experience means Alex has built excellent relationships with his clients, some of whom have been with him since the businesses inception.
We asked Alex….
What do you do for fun? – Competitive cross fit, I love being at the gym, pushing myself to be better every time and competing in cross fit against others.
What do you do to relax? – I am an adrenaline junkie, so throwing myself out of a plane is right up my street. On a day to day basis for some chill time I love building Lego.
What would you do if you didn’t have a business to run? – I like to think that I could retire and become a full time cross fitter but in reality my over active mind would need stimulation, so it would be property investment, business consultancy (which I already offer) and as much travel as I could fit in, as I love exploring!
What is the most important thing for you in life? – My family. My fiancée and I have 5 children (yes we do have a TV) Outside of the office my life revolves around my family – from being the Dad taxi, to taking them cycling, planning family trips and adventures. My wife and I are also total foodies, a good seafood meal and a ice cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc are normally the perfect finish to a day of hard work.

Tracey has over 20 years experience in business. Tracey has a degree in Business Management and Marketing. Having worked in the charity sector and within commercial business, Tracey has worked with complex systems and software, her experience has also seen her manage large teams. Tracey brings knowledge and experience from a variety of different business types, working along side Alex they share a passion for hard work and a commitment to delivering high quality customer service to clients, along with an environment geared towards a work life balance for the team members working at Howards Accountants.
We asked Tracey….
What fun fact do you know? – You can post a lobster in a polystyrene box as long as you don’t add water, it will live.
What is your nickname? – Dada. As a baby my brother couldn’t say my name and this was as close as he got, it just stuck and now all 4 brothers use my nickname, as do my nieces and nephews.
What is your favourite dinner? – Roast (Crispy potatoes are a must)
What is your favourite place in Cornwall to go to watch the sunset? – Godrevy / Gwithian, I love the beach and the sea, I find it calming and restful, living so close to the beach means I can have my toes in the sand within minutes of leaving the office. Silent disco beach yoga is a dream evening

Megan has been with Howards Accountants for over 5 years, when she first started she was still in training but since then Megan has passed her AAT Level 4. Megan has over 13 years experience in finance which includes working in a bank. Megan manages all of our VAT for the business, tracking deadlines and submissions for our clients.

Tell us a interesting fact about yourself? I can wave my big toe. (This is true we have made her show us and her toe does wave!)
What is your dream job? Roast potato tester
What is your favourite bad joke? What’s the fastest fish in the ocean? Motor pike.
What are your interests and hobbies? I love attempting to surf. I am not very good at it, but I love the idea of it! I’m a mum fan to my boys and all their sporting activities. I spend a lot of time cheering them on at Football from the sidelines!

Mel has over 20 years experience in the industry. Mel has achieved her AAT qualification. Mel joined the team in 2023 after the acquisition of Peter Saunders Chartered Accountants (Hayle). Mel continues to process the accounts of the clients from this practice.

What is your dream job? Something that involved supporting children in the care system
What is your nickname? Frowny Browny (My maiden name is Brown and so my husband calls me this when I have a “face on”).
Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation? I once got stopped at Bristol airport security for carrying a weapon in my handbag. It turned out to be a butter knife

Beata joined the team in 2023 and has completed AAT Level 4. Beata also gained a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Accounting.

Tell us a fact about yourself – I was born on the same day and month as Henry VII of England
What is the name of your pet? Fish
Tell us a bad joke? My son’s favourite joke “What do you call a Roman Emperor with a cold? Julius Sneezer”
What are your interests – I really enjoy embroidery and quilting. I also really love a good book.

Jonathan joined the team in 2022 and has nearly 2 years of experience. Jonathan recently sat his AAT Level 3 exam. We are eagerly awaiting the results

What are you known for in the office – Wearing the best shirts, I have a whole collection, the louder the better for me. (His car is bright yellow so we are not surprised by the shirts!)
What is your favourite food? Ham and cheese sandwich’s (I have had one every day for lunch for the last 18 years)
What is your nickname? Ronny Jayworth

Rachel joined the team in 2024 and has over 20 years of Administrative experience. Rachel uses her knowledge and experience to ensure clients are always treated professionally.

What fun fact do you know? – Koala Bears have the same fingerprints as humans?? (We haven’t fact checked this. But it is fun to believe it is true!)
Have you got any claims to fame? – I once met the Queen and gave her some flowers, I also got chatted up by a celebrity on a night out and turned him down.
What is your dream job? – Police Detective
What qualifications do you have? Kia Ora 25 metre swim certificate

Christopher joined the team in 2024 and has over 2 years of experience. Christopher is AAT Level 4 qualified. Christopher works on all types of accounts.

Tell us a fun fact about you – I have completed both a fire walk and a sky dive
What would be your dream job if you weren’t an accountant – I would love to be a holiday planner, I love building itineraries.
Tell us a bad joke – Proper dad joke incoming – My son “Dad, I’m hungry”, me “Hi hungry, I’m Dad” His look of disdain is what makes me laugh!
Where is your favourite place in Cornwall – Paul Ainsworth No 6, I really enjoy food, I have an appreciation for fine food as I have got older.

Louise has joined the team as a Chartered Accountant. Having been in practice for 8 years and obtained both her AAT and ACA qualifications. Louise brings with her vast knowledge and experience. Originally from Newquay, Louise completed some of her studies in Manchester but is now settled at a farm in Cornwall. Although she does love to travel and holiday as often as she can. Louise spends her time enjoying Cornwall especially Watergate Bay, often found walking Spencer her dog.
Louise will be assisting us with workload and complex accounts within the business, using her skills, knowledge and experience to complete these.

Jessica has spent many years working on super yachts at sea. Having travelled extensively and taken responsibility for a whole crew and client’s whilst doing so. Jessica can transfer these skills within our practice.
On leaving the seas for land, Jessica became a Virtual admin and in the process found a new love for numbers. Having now completed her Level 2 Bookkeeping, Jesse will be continuing her studies to develop her knowledge further. Jesse will be working in our admin team and booking in client records.

Do you have any claims to fame? – I once got Matthew McConaughy drunk at the Cannes Film Festival and got him to try a Richmond sausage

Evie joined the team in 2026, Evie will work alongside the VAT Manager to complete and submit VAT returns for our clients. Evie is responsible for the day to day bookkeeping of our clients and their records. Evie’s previous experience and knowledge allows her to join the company with a good understanding of both VAT and Bookkeeping and we will continue to grow these skills with Evie. In her spare time Evie is a dancer and loves to be on stage.

What qualifications do you have? – I have a qualification in diamonds and precious metals

Richard is a former Director of a financial based company. After taking a year out to spend time with his family. Richard and Alex are looking at further acquisition opportunities and the strategic development of the business in the future. In Richard’s career he took a small business and grew it to be one of the most well known financial brands for the credit industry. His knowledge and skills will help Howards Accountants to deliver high quality personable service whilst working strategically in the background on the business growth. Richard is not involved in the day to day running of the office but will focus on projects and business development opportunity

Edward has now fully retired from the business and is enjoying some well earned time off. Edward wants to send his personal thanks to the clients he has worked with throughout the years.
Edward plans to spend his retirement travelling, walking and supporting various charities he has been involved with throughout the years. Along with keeping up his acting at local dramatic societies.
